How to get here
By car and by bus:
Banská Bystrica is situated in the central Slovakia on the main highway and railroad routes from west to east and from north to south.
The north-southern highway connection (routes no. 59 and 66) begins on the border with Poland in Trstená, and continues through Dolný Kubín, Ružomberok, Banská Bystrica and Zvolen to Šahy - the border with Hungary.
In the west-eastern direction (routes no. D1 and R1), the most important highway route is the road from Bratislava through Nitra, Zvolen, Banská Bystrica to Poprad and Košice.
The main train connections: Zvolen - Margecany and Banská Bystrica - Vrútky with intrusion on the main electrificated railroad routes of Slovakia.

You can buy bus tickets for public transport or for long distance journey by the driver, for some long distance connections you should make prior reservation at the bus station office.

You have to buy tickets at the railway station, not in the train.
Airport Sliač - small international airport lies 12 km south of Banská Bystrica. During the main summer season it offers direct charter flights to a number of popular tourist destinations. In the future, airport will probably offer regular flights to Bratislava, Prague and Berlin.
